Murray State’s Ja Morant was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball in the week of Nov. 19-25 in voting of the league’s sports information directors.

Morant, a sophomore from Dalzell, S.C., turned in the 18th triple-double in OVC history Saturday in a 77-66 victory over Missouri State. Morant was 9-of-18 from the field and hit a career-high six 3-point baskets to go with a career-high 29 points, career-best 13 rebounds and 12 assists in 40 minutes of action.

It’s Morant’s second career triple-double. He also had one in the 2017-18 season as a freshman when he had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists last December against Eastern Illinois.

Morant currently ranks first nationally in assists/game (10.3) and 14th in scoring (24.3 points/game). Among OVC players he is first in assists, second in scoring, steals (2.3/game) and 3-pointers made/game (2.7), fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9), sixth in blocked shots (1.0/game), seventh in free throw percentage (86.7%), eighth in field goal percentage (59.1%), ninth in rebounding (7.0/game) and 12th in 3-point percentage (42.1%).

Murray State game records date back to 1984 and Morant has two of the three triple-doubles since then with the other being Isacc Miles in 2009.
