The Trigg County boys’ basketball team had lost its last four meetings with Fort Campbell coming into Tuesday night’s visit from the Falcons, but the Wildcats halted that trend with a 67-55 victory in Wildcat Gym.  The Falcons slip to 1-2, while Trigg County moves to 3-1, its best start in three seasons.

Kendric Adams scored 7 points in the opening quarter to help the Wildcats to a 17-13 advantage.  The Falcons trimmed a point off the lead behind 5 second-quarter points by Nathan Lake, but trailed 32-29 at halftime.  Adams’ 9 points led the Wildcats, while Andrew Syester scored 8 for the Falcons.

Syester scored to give the Falcons a 42-41 lead with 3:00 left in the third, but Adams scored the next 4 to restore Trigg’s 3-point cushion.  After 2 Adams free throws, a Gavin Grubbs layup at the buzzer sent the Wildcats into the final quarter up 50-46.

Cameron Johnson hit 2 free throws to pull Fort Campbell to within 5 at 60-55 with just over 3:00 to play, but a pull-up jumper by Trevor Cortner and a pair of free throws by Kyron Grubbs sealed the win.  The Wildcats held Fort Campbell to only 9 points in the final frame.

Adams finished with 16, followed by Shaun Terrell with 10 and Grubbs with 9.  The Falcons’ Doryan Hall led all scorers with 18, Syester scored 12, and Johnson added 10.

Both teams return to the court on Friday, with Fort Campbell facing Webster County in the Messenger Tip-Off Classic at Madisonville-North Hopkins.  Trigg County will look to move to 2-0 in 5th District play when Livingston Central (2-3) makes the trip to Cadiz.
