Caldwell Wrestlers Claim Third Place Finishes at Woodford County

Caldwell County had three wrestlers claim third place finishes Saturday at the Woodford County Invitational.

Riley Johnson finished third in the 106-pound class with three pins on the afternoon. After losing in the semifinal to Lafayette’s Luke Chapman, Johnson bounced back to beat Anderson County’s Josh Strayer in the consolation semifinals and earn a 10-0 major decision over LaRue County’s Gabe Fortier in the third place match.

Dylan Walls also brought home a third place finish while wrestling in the 120-poiund class. After dropping a 10-4 decision to North Hardin’s Devon Herron in the semifinals, Walls earned a pin of Jefferson City’s Christian Strope in the consolation semifinals and a 6-2 decision over Scott County’s Augustus Roberts for third place.

Seth Slayton finished third in the 170-pound class. He was bumped to the consolation bracket in the 170-pound class after losing a close 3-2 decision to eventual runner-up Tristian Kelley of Coahulla Creek, Georgia. There, he pinned Winfield, Ohio’s Chance Dixon and got a 9-6 decision over Apollo’s Jack Fuller to claim third place.

Wrestlers who won at least two matches on the day but didn’t place were James Jones (126), Colin Walls (145), John Paredes (152), Tristan Tinsley (160), and Sam Teutsch (182).

As a team, Caldwell County scored 97 points to finish 11th in the 26-team field.
