February 25, 2016. Trigg County won the last of four straight district titles as they beat Lyon County 67-61 in the Fifth District championship game. That was Trigg County’s last win in February. Until Tuesday.
Three Wildcats scored in double figures, and Trigg County scored 24 points off 23 turnovers in a 63-44 win at Wildcat Gym. The victory was Trigg’s 14th straight over Dawson Springs dating back to 2011 and snapped a 13-game losing streak in the month of February.
Trigg County trailed 12-11 after one quarter but used a 12-2 run midway through the second quarter to take a 25-18 lead. Skyler Clark’s second 3-pointer of the half drew the Panthers to within 25-21, but the Wildcats managed to keep a 27-22 advantage at halftime.
The Wildcats turned up the pressure in the third quarter as another 7-0 run fueled by Panther turnovers saw Trigg build a 40-28 lead. Dawson Springs got to within 40-32 but got no closer.
Kendric Adams recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He also had five steals. Gavin Grubbs and Jakobe Bridges both scored 10 points, and Khyran Vaughn added nine points and nine rebounds.
Trigg held a 39-26 advantage on the glass and shot 41-percent from the field.
Skyler Clark and Landon Pace both scored 12 points for Dawson Springs (9-15), who hit just 3-of-14 shots behind the arc.
Trigg County improved to 9-15 on the season and will play at Caldwell County Friday.
