Henderson County played like a team with 14 region championship banners in their gym, and Trigg County looked like a team that hadn’t been to the region tourney in a decade. A 20-0 first half run was what the doctor ordered for the Lady Colonels as they beat Trigg County 68-27 in the Second Region quarterfinals Wednesday in Marion.

Trigg County turned the basketball over 14 times in the first half that led to 10 Henderson points. Trigg only had 13 shots in the first 16 minutes as a result.

Henderson led 5-0 before Bethany Stallons answered with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 5-3. The Lady Colonels then scored 20 straight and held a 25-3 lead with 4:48 left in the half. Stallons ended the run with her second 3-pointer.

Henderson led 35-12 at halftime as they shot 50-percent from the field.

Trigg righted the ship some in the second half as they matched their first half output with 12 points. The closest Trigg got was 39-20 midway through the third quarter.

Trigg shot 8-of-28 from the field and 9-of-13 from the free throw line. Turnovers were their undoing as they committed 31 that led to 29 Henderson points.

The Lady Colonels shot 52-percent from the field and outrebounded Trigg 22-20.

Henderson (16-8) put four players in double figures, led by Alyssa Dickson and Emilee Hope with 17 points apiece. Dickson also had seven rebounds. Reserve Graci Risley came off the bench to score 16 points for the Lady Colonels, who improved to 30-5 all-time in the first round of the region tourney.

Rylee Bush led Trigg County with 10 points and four rebounds. Stallons scored six points, and T.T. Grubbs had three points and four rebounds.

Trigg County’s season ends with a record of 16-16. It’s their first .500 or better season since 2003, and the 16 wins are their most since 1990-91.

Henderson County advances to the region semifinals where they will play Monday at 6pm.
