Blazers Advance to All-A Baseball Region Title Game

It was a little tougher than expected, but the University Heights Academy Blazers moved into the championship game of the Second Region Baseball All-A Classic with a 16-6 win over Fort Campbell Tuesday.

UHA scored four runs in the first, second, and sixth innings bit couldn’t put the Falcons away until the bottom of the sixth inning.

Dan Johnson picked up the complete game win with a seven-strikeout, zero walk performance. He scattered 10 hits and allowed three earned runs.

After Fort Campbell scored in the first on singles by Ryan Sawyer and Matthew Middleton and a sacrifice fly by Eli Crockett, UHA answered with a four spot. A bases loaded walk, wild pitch, and Fort Campbell error plated three runs before Eston Glover added an RBI single.

Tyler MacKay tripled in Michael Averhart in the second inning for the Falcons. UHA appeared to have the game headed toward a mercy rule with another four-run inning in the second.

Peyton Loveall had an RBI double for Fort Campbell as part of a two-run third inning to pull the Falcons to within 8-4. A Greyson  Meyer RBI single made it 8-5.

Johnson had an RBI single for the Blazers in the fifth. Glover added his second RBI single to cap the three-run fifth.

Drew McGowan had three hits for the Blazers, who had nine in the contest. Glover and Tanner Thomas each had two hits, with Glover driving in three runs on the night.

Middleton and Sawyer had three hits for Fort Campbell (1-6), with MacKay adding two.

University Heights (6-5) will play Lyon County in the All-A Classic region championship Thursday at 6pm at Gordon Guess Field in Marion.
