No change at all this week in the YSE 2nd Region Volleyball “Super 7.” The top 3 appear to be firmly entrenched. They could shuffle a bit among themselves, but they appear to be a good bit ahead of the rest of the region. After that, while it was status quo for this week, there could be some movement in spots 3-7 over the final weeks of the season.
– Caldwell County (14-6) – A pair of straight set wins for the Lady Tigers since their tough stay at the All A Classic. Some big matchups ahead over the next couple of weeks, including a home date with Henderson County.
– University Heights (12-2) – The Lady Blazers have won seven matches in a row since the All A regional. In those seven matches, they have lost a grand total of one set. Some big ones coming up, including Apollo, Henderson County, and Christian Fellowship.
– Henderson County (15-7) – The northern Lady Colonels swept Christian County, but then got swept by a solid Daviess County team. Down the stretch we will learn more about this team, as they have battles coming up with both Caldwell County and UHA.
– Crittenden County (10-12) – The Lady Rockets continue to be a team beating who they are supposed to, but still in need of a signature win. The closest thing would be their five set win over Webster County. Lady Rockets figure to go to the region as the winner out of the 5th District barring some earth shattering occurrence.
– Webster County (7-11) – The Lady Trojans picked up a win over Hopkins Central and a win over a solid Ohio County team. Thursday night, this team will get a good indicator of where they stand late in the season as they take on Henderson County, who swept the Lady Trojans the first time around.
– Madisonville (9-11) – The Lady Maroons lost a road match to #1 Caldwell County and a home match to #2 UHA. Hard to drop them in the Super 7 for that. Losing 5 of 6, though, is not the way you want to head down the stretch of the season.
– Hopkinsville (4-9) – How difficult has Hoptown’s schedule been. Since August 27, they are 2-6. Those six losses are: 2 to Henderson County, 2 to UHA, 1 to Caldwell County, and 1 to Daviess County. Two matches coming up against crosstown rival Christian County will settle the race for #2 in the 8th District.
