Colonel Wrestlers Take Second at Cape Tiger Invitational

Gage Fowler was one of two Christian County wrestlers to stand atop the awards podium Saturday at the Cape Tiger Invitational

Christian County put 13 wrestlers on the podium Saturday at the prestigious Cape Central Tiger Invitational and brought home a second place trophy.

Gage Fowler and Jakerion Merritt were the two champions of the day for the Colonels.  Fowler won a 5-0 decision in the championship of the 120-pound match, while Merritt brought home the 145-pound title with an 11-4 win.

The Colonels had four other wrestlers just miss a title with runner-up finishes.  Ethan Wells (126), Austin Grant-Hall (138), Cameron Coleman (182), and Niko Bussell (220) all finished second on the day.

Young Colonels JaRi Coleman finished third at 106, and J.T. Adams was third at 170.

Other Colonels to reach the podium were A.J. Harvey (195) and TyDarius Kelly (285) in fourth place; Nathan Hale (113) and Timmie Dunham (160) in fifth place; and Mason Kellett (132) in sixth place.

The Colonels scored 315.5 points in the tourney but still finished in second place to Jackson, Missouri’s 361 points.  There were 16 teams in the field.

Christian County will host their annual invitational Friday and Saturday at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
