Madisonville used a 15-0 run to begin the fourth quarter and held off University Heights Academy 63-60 Friday on Don Parson Court. Madisonville’s fourth-quarter run was aided by the ejection of UHA coach Grant Shouse with 6:34 left in the game. Shouse argued a no-call that led to a Maroon bucket that tied the game at 50. The Blazer coached called a timeout ahead of the first technical and picked up the second a few seconds later.

Madisonville’s Kale Gaither knocked down all four free throws to put the Maroons up 54-50. Ashton Gaines capped the 15-0 run with a bucket with 5:55 left in the game.

Amani McGee ended the run with a bucket with 5:45 left.

UHA tied the game at 56 on a William Bryan bucket with 2:40 left. Gaither answered with the next three points, and the Maroons led for the rest of the game.

Down 62-57, McGee buried a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to draw the Blazers to within two points. UHA got the ball back down three but turned it over with two seconds left.

The Maroons missed a pair of free throws that would have salted the game away. After a timeout, Madisonville stole the UHA inbounds pass to escape with the win.

The Blazers knocked down ten 3-pointers in the game, with seven coming in the first half as UHA led by as many as 10 points. Madisonville scored the final four points of the half to trail 35-29 at the break.

K.J. Crump and D.J. Quarles hit consecutive 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Blazers built their largest lead of the game at 44-31.

Gaither scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter, including 8-of-11 at the free throw line.  For the game, Madisonville hit 12-of-20 at the free throw line – all in the fourth quarter. UHA was 10-of-12 at the charity stripe.
