It was a tough game to be a pitcher. In a contest between two teams expected to contend for the 2nd Region softball title, Lyon County and Christian County combined to score 29 runs on 38 hits, as the Lady Colonels rebounded from their first loss of the season earlier in the day to Daviess County by out-slugging the Lady Lyons 17-12.
Christian County scored in every inning but the 6th inning on their way to scoring 17 runs on 21 hits. Lyon County was almost as effective at the plate, as the Lady Lyons scored 12 runs on 17 hits, scoring in every inning but the first and the fifth.
Christian County got things going early with a three-run homer from Reni Shemwell in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Lady Colonels added five more runs in the top of the 2nd. The big hits were RBI doubles from Pickle Winkler, Tenley Gilbert, and Reni Shemwell.

Lyon County got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Hadlie Butler took one out of the park to left to trim the lead to 8-1.
Christian County got that run back on a bases-loaded walk to Reni Shemwell in the top of the third to make it 9-1.
Sydney Melton and Gracen Wynn came up with RBI singles in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 9-3.
Christian County scored three more runs in the top of the 4th inning to push the lead out to 12-3. Pickle Winkler connected on a two-run shot to center for the big hit of the inning.
Sydney Melton’s RBI single in the bottom of the inning made it a 12-4 ballgame.
Chloe Craft drove in a run with a base hit in the top of the 5th to push the lead out to 13-4.
Lyon County began a move to get back in the game in the bottom of the 6th inning. An RBI single from Calista Collins and a sac fly from Kaelyn Conger helped to cut the Christian County lead to 13-7 going into the final inning. And with the way runs were being scored, no lead would feel safe enough.

Christian County added some insurance in the top of the 7th inning, and it turned out it was a good thing too. Pickle Winkler drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double. That was followed by Riley Hancock scoring Winkler on a single to center field to make it 17-7.
A pair of singles and a catcher’s interference loaded the bases for Lyon County with one out in the bottom of the 7th. Calista Collins walked to make it 17-8. Sydney Melton then blasted a grand slam to left to cut the lead to 17-12.
The Lady Lyons then began reloading the bases. Kaelyn Conger reached on an error and Gracen Wynn singled to right to put runners at first and second with still one out. But that would be as far as the comeback would get, as a fielder’s choice and a groundout to third would end the game.
Pickle Winkler had a monster game for Christian County, going 5-6 with a home run, two doubles, 7 RBIs, and three runs scored. Reni Shemwell also had a big game going 2-4, with a home run, a double, 5 RBIs, and two runs scored. Riley Hancock finished 3-6 with an RBI.
Sydney Melton’s bat was sizzling for Lyon County. Melton was 4-4 with a home run and 6 RBIs. Calista Collins was 3-3 with two doubles, 3 RBIs, and three runs scored. Lauren Davis was 3-5 with three runs scored.
In the circle, Riley Hancock picked up the win for Christian County, while Kaelyn Conger was tagged with the loss for Lyon County.
