The Hopkinsville baseball team dropped its third game in four outings with a 5-2 setback to visiting Henderson County on Monday.  The Tigers were held to only 2 hits and fell victim to a 7th-inning surge by the Colonels.

Looking to put an end to a 3-game losing run, Henderson picked up a run in the 1st off Hopkinsville starting pitcher Tim Cansler.  With 2 outs, a single and a hit by pitch put runners on 1st and 2nd and Daniel Gardner came through with a single to bring in a run.

Wes Goldsberry doubled the Colonel lead with an RBI single in the 2nd before the Tigers answered in the bottom of the inning with a run.  After being hit by a pitch, Landon Snyder moved to 2nd after a walk and stole 3rd before coming home on a groundout by Blake Balthrop.

After the Tigers tied it at 2-2 in the 3rd on a Henderson error, Cansler found his groove on the mound and held the Colonels to no runs and a single hit over the next three frames.

However, after struggling to put up any offense against Henderson starting pitcher Bryce Hayden, the Tigers didn’t find things any easier against Seth Galloway.  Galloway got the last out in the 4th after Hayden held the Tigers to 2 runs, 1 earned, on a hit with 5 walks and a pair of strikeouts.

Cansler allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts before giving way to Zach Moss to start the 7th.  With 2 on and one out, Andrew Mills doubled to right field to bring in a pair and eventually came home on a groundout to give Henderson a 5-2 advantage.

The Tigers had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs in their final at-bat, but a line-out, a fielder’s choice, and a strikeout ended the game.

Hopkinsville slips to 12-5 ahead of a visit from Caldwell County on Tuesday.
