J.J. Thompson had two hits at the plate and struck out 11 on the mound to help Heritage Christian Academy beat Bluegrass United 7-6 Monday in Bowling Green.

The Warrior freshman had RBI hits in both the fifth and sixth innings as Heritage rallied from a 3-0 deficit.  HCA scored three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth before holding off a late Bluegrass rally.

Thompson had a double as part of his two-hit day and scored twice.  On the mound, he scattered six hits and allowed just two earned runs.  He was one out shy of pitching a complete game.  After Bluegrass got to within one run in the seventh inning, Weston Powell came on to retire the final batter and collect the save.

Powell also tripled and drove in two runs for the Warriors who outhit Bluegrass 7-6. However, HCA had four errors that led to four unearned runs.  Grant Floyd also had a pair of RBIs for the Warriors.

Benjamin Rank had two hits for Bluegrass United, a homeschool baseball team comprised of players in the Lexington and central Kentucky area.  The teams agreed to meet in Bowling Green to play the game.

Heritage Christian Academy has completed its regular season and now awaits an opponent in the KCAA Baseball semifinals to be played May 25 in Shelbyville.
