Aidan Rush and Brody Williams led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back home runs and Lyon County never trailed in an 8-4 victory over visiting Murray High on Thursday.  Jackson Shoulders added his eleventh long ball of the year to tie the program’s record for a single season.

The Lyons overcame five errors on the night to win their second straight and improve to 22-7.  Murray arrived in Eddyville winners of five of six but slip to 16-16 with the loss.

Two of Murray starter pitcher Kyle Crady’s first three pitches were deposited over the fence, with Rush and Williams giving the Lyons an early lead.

Crady was in more trouble in the second after two walks and an error and the Lyons pushed two more across on a sacrifice fly by Rush and an RBI single by Williams.

Travis Yancy started on the mound for the Lyons and cruised through the first three innings before his defense let him down in the fourth.  Carson Tucker reached and went to second on an error to lead off the inning and came home on an RBI single by Kade Gibson.

A Reese Wilson single brought in another run ahead of a 3-6-4 double play to get the Lyons an out away from ending the inning.  But another error allowed the third run across and the Lyon County lead was down to two.

Brady Darnall relieved Yancy to start the fifth and the first batter he faced reached on an error.  Tucker came through with a one-out single to drive in a run and trim the advantage to 5-4, but that would be the last of the Tigers’ offense.

Shoulders hit the second pitch he saw over the center-field fence to lead off the fifth and a Christian O’Daniel double brought in two runs for the final score.

Yancy worked four innings to earn the win, allowing three runs, only one earned, on three hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.  Darnall held the Tigers to a single hit over the final three frames.

Rush, Williams, and O’Daniel each drove in two and Williams was the only Lyon with two hits.

Crady took the loss, lasting three innings and allowing five runs, two earned, on three hits with a pair of walks.  Andrew Orr gave up three earned runs in one inning of work and Tucker gave up a single hit with a strikeout over the sixth and seventh.

Lyon County wraps up the regular season with a visit from Henderson County on Friday before hosting Livingston Central in the 5th District tournament on Monday.
