Christian County alum and assistant coach Cole Isom has been named head coach of the Colonel baseball program. The announcement was made by the school district Tuesday evening.
Isom is a 2010 graduate of Christian County High and a 2014 graduate of Evansville where he played his college baseball.
He was a standout athlete at CCHS where he earned all-district and all-region honors and was named to the Kentucky Junior All-State team and the Kentucky East/West Junior All-Star Game.
At Evansville, Isom was an All-Missouri Valley Conference honorable mention pitcher.
“I’d like to thank my previous coaches at the high school and collegiate level for playing a major part in my development as a player and now as a coach. Josh Hunt, Chad Crick, Blake Leach, and Wes Carroll, to name a few, all played a major role in my career. I’d also like to thank Trey Wheeler for being a great friend and colleague during our time coaching together,” Isom said in a release.
Isom takes over a Colonel baseball program that advanced to the state tournament in 2018. He is hoping his pedigree as a player that includes four district titles, two regional titles, and two semi-state titles will help translate to the product on the field.
Isom replaces Trey Wheeler, who stepped down after four seasons to become the full-time athletic director at Christian County. Christian County was 69-58 with three district titles and one regional championship.
