When University Heights Academy and Christian County faced off in the 8th District Championship last season, it was the Blazers who came out on top. But with this being the last season of Colonel baseball, it seemed only fitting for County to get their revenge with a narrow 2-1 win.
It was the Blazers who struck in the top of the first inning with an RBI double off the bat of AJ Hogart. But after that, there was nothing but silence on the scoreboard from both teams for four innings.
That silence was broken when Christian County was able to tie it up in the bottom of the sixth at one run apiece with a double from Blake Boehman. And after the Colonels’ pitching was able to keep the Blazers from scoring in the top of the seventh, the game was tied going into the bottom of the inning.
Christian County’s Sebastian Dazey hit a single, Andrew Mayes was intentionally walked, and Dylan Sweeney was unintentionally hit to load the bases with no outs. UHA’s Jaiden Miles was able to strike out the next batter, but Gage Montes battled at the plate and drew a nine-pitch walk to win the game.
Eddie Davis started the game for the Colonels and pitched the first six innings, tallying three punch outs and allowing just two hits. As for the Blazers, Hayden Hunt pitched six innings as well and racked up five strikeouts of his own.
At the plate, the Colonels had four different players with base knocks, while Hunt and Hogart had the hits for University Heights.
Christian County will be looking for their win in the 2nd Region Tournament since 2023, when they eventually lost to the Henderson County Colonels in the championship game in 11 innings.
