After a tough end to her senior season, and completely missing out on her junior season, there was good news for Christian County grad Reni Shemwell Wednesday afternoon. Shemwell officially signed her papers to play college softball at Lake Land College.

Shemwell was having a monster senior season when a leg injury prematurely brought her final high school year to an end. Shemwell still hit .419 with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs for a Christian County team that won its 17th straight 8th District championship.

Shemwell’s junior year was lost to the COVID-19 pandemic. In her sophomore season, she hit .337 with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs.

In addition to her time on the diamond, Shemwell was also a starter for the Lady Colonels basketball team. During her senior year, she averaged 7.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest.

Lake Land College is located in Mattoon, Illinois.

Reni addressed those in attendance and then spoke with YSE after the signing.
