Going into their home game against Calloway County, the Christian County softball team had just won their last game against Muhlenberg County in 11 innings. Unfortunately, the Lady Colonels were not able to build on that win, and lost in a close 4-3 game against the Lady Lakers.
Calloway County got on the board in the first inning with a run, and they then scored another run in the third before the Lady Colonels were able to score their first.
Christian County’s first run of the game then came in the bottom of the fourth, as well as their second. One of those runs came from a Katie Smith single, and the other when Alexis Epps scored on an error by Calloway’s center fielder.
That made it a tie game, but the Lady Lakers took the lead right back with a run in the top of the fifth. However, that lead did not last long, as Chloe Almy doubled to tie the game again at three runs apiece.
But in the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Lakers scored on a bunt single to make it 4-3. Christian County got a runner on second in the home half of the inning, but the Lady Lakers were able to get a fly out to win the game, which was their second straight win.
Christian County was able to out-hit Calloway, and they were led by Almy with a pair of base knocks.
The Lady Colonels will be looking to get back in the win column in their next game against Paducah Tilghman on the road on Thursday, May 14. First pitch of the game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
