It appears we are on track for the beginning of what we all hope is a very busy and exciting fall sports season. The 2021 “dead period” officially ended at midnight Friday night, which means teams can now get back to work and begin preparations in earnest for the fall sports season.

Right away, that means football, soccer, volleyball, golf, and cross country can kick things into high gear. The first week out of the dead period will see practices, camps, scrimmages, and 7-on-7 passing competition as things start aiming up for the “official” start of competition.

Some dates to remember coming up.

Golf competition will get started in the final week of July.

The 2021 high school soccer season will get started the week of August 9th.

Volleyball season officially opens the week of August 16th.

The football regular season gets going the weekend of August 20-21.

This time last summer, we were still waiting to see if we would have a fall sports season and just when it might begin if we did. While things are improved significantly from the fall of 2020, it would not be shocking to see occasional cancellations or stoppages, as COVID-19 is still rearing its ugly head from time to time.

But, for now, “dead period” is over, LET’S PLAY.
