The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons have been considered a regional contender throughout the 2021 soccer season, and they did little to damage that reputation in their match against Hopkinsville Tuesday night at the Stadium of Champions. The Maroons controlled the match from the opening whistle and rolled to a 7-1 win over the Tigers in a quarterfinal round match of the boys’ 2nd Region soccer tournament.

For a while, it looked as if the Tigers were going to put themselves into position to have a shot at pulling off the upset. Despite the Maroons having a huge shot advantage, the first twenty minutes of the match saw the Tigers hold serve in a 0-0 tie.

However, the Maroons would score five teams over the final twenty minutes of the half to take a 5-1 lead into the break.

Logan Terry got things started for the Maroons, scoring on an assist from Zach Bryant to make it 1-0. At the 23:30 mark, the Tigers were called for a foul in the box. Sam Dodds scored the penalty kick to make it 2-0.

Six minutes later Zach Bryant scored on an assist from J.J. Brown to make it 3-0. Bryant would score again at the 33:00 to push the lead out to 4-0. A second foul in the box on Hoptown would lead to Ivan Juarez scoring the penalty kick to extend the lead to 5-0.

Miguel Magana would find the net late in the half for Hopkinsville to cut the lead to 5-1 going into the break.

The Maroons would quickly smother out any hopes of a big rally in the second half, scoring twice in the first fourteen minutes of the second half to make it 7-1. Eli Redpath and J.J. Brown would add the second-half goals for the Maroons.

With the loss, Hoptown finishes the season with a record of 6-15.

Madisonville-North Hopkins moves on to the semifinals where they will face Henderson County.
