Henderson Ends Lady Blazers’ Season for 7th Straight Year

University Heights Academy knew they would have to play a perfect game if they were to upset Henderson County and advance to the girls’ region soccer semi-finals. They almost did just that, however, the Lady Colonels were able to find the net one time in each half and claim a 2-0 win over the Lady Blazers Tuesday in Madisonville.

Henderson County moves on to Wednesday’s semifinal where they will play Hopkins County Central, a 2-0 winner over Lyon County.

It’s a familiar script for the Lady Blazer soccer program. Some of their best offensive teams saw its season end at the hands of Henderson County in the region tournament because they could not match their regular-season offensive prowess.

The Lady Blazers did everything they could on defense until freshman Kacee Butler was able to dent the scoreboard first for the Lady Colonels when she scored in the 15th minute.

Henderson County’s defense was able to keep the Lady Blazers without a shot in the first half. Ashton Lynam added an insurance score for Henderson County in the 70th minute when she found the back of the net on a breakaway.

The Lady Blazers were outshot 15-3 in the contest, with all three UHA shots coming in the final ten minutes.

The loss marks the seventh straight season the University Heights Academy soccer season has ended at the hands of Henderson County.

The Lady Colonels improve to 15-6 as they move on to the semi-finals, while UHA sees its season end with a record of 7-7-1.

Seniors Piper Hancock and Kerrigan Rogers are responsible for 39 wins during their time in the green and gold. MacKenzie Young joined the team in her junior year and was a part of 15 wins.
