Travis Branham, national basketball analyst for 247Sports, says it is not unusual for a Canadian player to reclassify like Kentucky commit Shaedon Sharpe seems ready to do.

“It actually has been something they had been juggling around for a few months,” Branham said recently on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports. “I still don’t think the decision is set but I think him being on campus in December and for the second semester is very likely.”

Sharpe is the No. 1 player in the 2022 recruiting class. The 6-5 guard has played one game with Dream City Christian (Ariz.) but seems set on being at UK for the second semester where he will practice with the team but not play until the 2022-23 season.

“He’s proved to be the top guy in his class and took a massive jump from junior season to senior year,” Branham said. “He is gifted and ready to make the jump. His skill set is very advanced. He could play right away (at UK) from a talent perspective.

“However, to me, it is very difficult for a player to come in now with the team already practicing since the summer and play catch up. Adjusting to the speed of play is not an easy task. He would have missed half a season and then SEC play would be starting. People are already in rhythm.”

What if he decides to make the move to UK for the second semester? Would he keep playing for Dream City — which will be at Marshall County Hoopfest in December — until then?

“If he makes the decision to enroll early, I think he would probably shut it down with Dream City,” Branham said.
