Lady Warriors Move Into KCAA Volleyball Semifinals

Playing as the top seed, Heritage Christian Academy moved into the semifinals of the KCAA State Volleyball Tournament with two wins Friday.

HCA opened with a 25-14, 25-7 win over No. 8 seed Oak Ridge Christian in Friday’s first-round match at West Jessamine High School.

The win put them into the quarterfinals against No. 4 seed Lexington Latin. The first set featured nine ties with the last at 19-19. Tori Sutton and Lexie Crisp keyed a 6-1 run to end the set for a 25-20 win. Elle Heltsley had six kills in the set, including set point. Sutton added three kills, and Mya Goodwin had eight assists.

The second set featured just one tie at 3-3. Up 12-10, HCA rattled off five straight points with Heltsley slamming home two points and Goodwin adding an ace.  Lexington Latin would get no closer than seven points the rest of the match as HCA closed it out for the 25-13 win.

Heltsley had six kills in the set, and Crisp added three.

HCA improves to 30-6 and will play in Saturday afternoon’s semifinal against No. 2 seed Community in a matchup of the only two teams in the KCAA unbeaten against conference opponents.
