The Todd County Central girls basketball team was young a season ago and they remain so in 2021-22, but an experienced core and talented youngsters have the Lady Rebels looking for a return to the 4th Region tournament after a three-year absence.

Former assistant Matt Fraliex takes over for Lee Quarles after the Lady Rebels ended his only season on a six-game losing streak, culminating in a 45-31 defeat to Franklin-Simpson in the first round of the 13th District tournament.

Lucy Chester leads the returnees after posting team-highs in points (12.2) and rebounds (10.2) as a sophomore, joined in the paint by freshman Alexis Taylor.  Taylor was third last season with just under 11 points per game and pulled down the second-most rebounds (7.7).

Sophomore G/F Abby Williams returns in the starting lineup after posting 11 points and a shade over four rebounds per contest.  Juniors Jamaia Coleman and Ciara Collins are also back to provide experience and ballhandling in the backcourt for the Lady Rebels, along with senior Tamiya Foster.

A pair of 8th-graders, JaMya Kay and Leah Glenn, are also expected to have big roles this season, with Kay pushing for a starting job after averages of four points and two rebounds in ten games as a 7th-grader.  Sophomore Zalaya Smith is another player tabbed to provide depth at the guard and forward spots.

The Lady Rebels get the season started with a trip to Trigg County on November 29.  Todd Central knocked off the Lady Wildcats 52-48 in Elkton last year behind 20 points from Chester.

A pair of tournaments are scheduled for the holidays, beginning with the DQ Classic at Ohio County on December 20-22.  Todd Central will host the Zaxby’s Christmas Classic with Montgomery Central and UHA visiting Elkton to end the year.

The Lady Rebels open district play on January 7 against Franklin-Simpson and kick-off the 4th Region All-A tournament on January 12.

First-year head coach Matt Fraliex talks about the 2021-22 Lady Rebels.
