
Christian County finished fourth in the season-opening Harpeth Wrestling Invitational Saturday in Kingston Springs, Tennessee.
The Colonels had two wrestlers take first place and five reach the awards podium.
A.J. Harvey won the 285-pound class in a fairly quick fashion, claiming three wins by fall and a fourth by a major decision.
Deameion Leavell won the 138-pound class with quite a bit of drama. After winning his first two matches by a pin and decision, the Colonel 8th grader claimed a sudden death win over Brentwood Academy’s Carson Smith in the semifinals. Leavell claimed a 7-5 decision in the championship.
JaRi Campbell finished in second place in the 120-pound class. He won by fall in two matches and claimed a 4-1 win in the semifinals. He lost a 3-1 decision to Wilson Central’s Nicholas Mercante in the championship match.
Ashton Smith finished in third place at 106, battling back from an opening-round loss to win five straight matches. He beat the wrestler who sent him into the consolation round by fall in the second round of the consolation semifinal.
Mason Kellett also finished in third place, winning four matches in the 152-pound class. After losing in the semifinal round, Kellett won by fall in the consolation semifinals and beat Brentwood Academy’s Taylor Wimsatt 4-3 for third place.
Ryan Hines won a pair of matches in the 145-pound class before falling in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
Christian County had 107 points, finishing 24 points behind third place Brentwood Academy.
