Lose one, gain one. Kentucky needs help in the defensive secondary and lost one of the top commitments in its 2022 recruiting class when junior college defensive back DeCarlos Nicholson signed with Mississippi State instead of the Wildcats. He was one of the nation’s best junior college secondary players and was a huge commitment when he picked the Cats.
However, not long after Nicholason signed with Mississippi State, the Cats signed 6-4 junior college defensive back Zay Frazier of Coffeyville Community College. He was considered the top junior college cornerback by many and No. 3 overall junior college prospect.
He had 31 tackles, including 26 solo stops, in nine games last season along with a 11 pass breakups (10th nationally), one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He played four games at Southern Illinois in 2019.
The Georgia native had 93 tackles and 10 interceptions during his prep career at Cedartown High School. He also played basketball and ran track in high school.
Frazier, who is expected to play safety at UK, signed with Kentucky over Mississippi State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and Utah.
Kentucky got involved with Frazier when Nicholson began to look at other schools about a month ago. Frazier made an official visit to UK in November.
Kentucky’s secondary was suspect at times last season and is expected to lose Quandre Mosely, Davonte Robinson, Yusuf Corker, Tyrell Ajian, and Cedrick Dort.
Kentucky’s other signees include defensive backs Alex Afari and Andre Stewart.

Glad Frazier is aboard, but I would think UK may need some more depth at DB when you look at what theycould lose off their team.
