Bateman’s Big Game Leads Colonels Past Northwest

Christian County’s Derrell Bateman poured in 28 points on Wednesday to help the Colonels pull away from Northwest 67-53 in their final game of the City of Hopkinsville Toyota Holiday Classic.

The Colonels led 4-0 before Northwest outscored them 10-2, capped by a 3-pointer by Scott Batista.  However, Breland Morrison scored five straight and Ja’Sean Riley drilled a 3-pointer to give the Colonels a 14-10 lead after the 1st quarter.

Jordan Miles scored the Colonels’ first eight points in the 2nd quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers, and they led by seven after a Bateman dunk with just over two minutes to play in the half.

Servontae Williams scored seven in the 2nd quarter for the Vikings and his 3-pointer with 1:50 left cut the Christian County lead to a point at 28-27.  KJ Vaughn scored on a drive just before the buzzer and the Colonels led 34-31 at the break.

Bateman took over in the 3rd with 12 points, including back-to-back buckets to stretch the margin to nine late in the quarter.  After a Miles layup gave the Colonels their first double-digit advantage, Bateman put back his own miss just ahead of the buzzer for a 53-42 lead going the 4th.

Bateman added eight more points over the last eight minutes and the Colonels continued to pull away, leading by as many as 18 on the way to a 14-point victory.

The Colonels improve to 3-5 and will return to the court after Christmas to play in the Henderson Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Classic.
