
Caldwell County’s girls pushed a nine-point halftime lead to 21 points in the third quarter and went on to defeat Hickman County 62-40 Monday afternoon in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic at the CAB gym.
Back-to-back layups by A.J. Hollowell put Caldwell up 49-28 late in the period before a 3-pointer by Hickman County at the horn made it 49-31 entering the final frame.
Caldwell’s final 22-point margin equaled the biggest lead of the game.
The contest was close early on before the Lady Tigers (2-7) built a 15-10 lead after one quarter.
Caldwell went to halftime with a 29-20 margin, then blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Falcons 20-11 in that frame.
Brylee Butts had 18 points to pace Caldwell while Parris Gray had 17 and Katy Smiley had 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Smiley was named the Player of the Game for Caldwell.
Hickman (2-5) got 17 points and five rebounds from Rancey Skaggs, who was the Lady Falcons’ Player of the Game. Anna Howell added eight points and 11 boards.
After starting the season 0-6, Caldwell’s girls have now won two of their last three outings.
The Lady Tigers will host longtime rival Lyon County Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 in day two of the West Kentucky Hoops Classic.
