Did you see how Auburn basketball got a little payback for its football team when it won 81-77 at Alabama Tuesday night? Coach Bruce Pearl’s team had a large contingent of Auburn fans at the game.
“As much as anything else, the Auburn family turned out. The Auburn family turned out,” Pearl said after the game. “If y’all were here, you saw what I’m talking about. Our fans are traveling, and it is exciting.
“I just think it’s a great recognition of our program. This is our rival. And Alabama’s got a great program also. But our fans are traveling like Kentucky fans now. This is — this is something else.”
Okay, “traveling like Kentucky fans” might be a bit of an embellishment. But the fans won’t have to travel when the Tigers host Kentucky Saturday and this could be UK’s most difficult game of the season to win.
However, even Kentucky fans have to like what the Auburn players did after the win at Alabama. They did the “crane kick” in front of the Alabama student secant and waved goodbye to the students.
Why do that?
Apparently, after Alabama’s dramatic comeback football win at Auburn in November, Crimson Tide players celebrated in front of the Auburn student section where the Auburn basketball players were. The Auburn basketball players got their payback after their win at Alabama.
