Carlisle Buzzer Beater Spoils Trigg Comeback Bid

1-30-gude

Trigg County rallied from eight points down in the final minute to tie its game with Carlisle County Saturday and thought they were going to write the perfect ending.

However, Carlisle County’s Isaiah Keeling wrote a different story.

Keeling’s first three-pointer of the season came at the final horn to give the Comets the 52-49 win. The Wildcats trailed 47-39 with 41 seconds left. Trigg scored eight points in 14 seconds.

Jerimyah Shearer made a three-pointer and buckets by Jhaden Vaughn and Kendric Adams tied the game at 47 with 27 seconds left.

Carlisle made two out of five free throws in its next three possessions, and Vaughn put back his own missed shot with 6.6 seconds left to tie the game at 49.

After a Carlisle time-out, Evan Oliver took the inbounds pass and raced up the court. He found Keeling in the left corner who launched the game-winning three-pointer.

It settled a contest that featured 10 lead changes and eight ties. Trigg‘s biggest lead was five points in the third quarter. Carlisle led by as many as nine in the third quarter.

Keeling led Carlisle County with 21 points and Zak Grogan added 14 points. The Comets were playing without leading score Garrett Hayden. The senior guard, who scored 70 points in a game earlier this year against Paducah Tilghman, is out with a knee injury.

Jhaden Vaughn had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Wildcats. Khyran Vaughn added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Shearer hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points in getting the spot start.

Two glaring weaknesses for the Wildcats were free throws and turnovers. Trigg hit just 10 of 21 at the free throw line and turned the ball over 16 times that led to 21 Carlisle County points.

The game was Trigg County‘s first-ever at Carlisle County, and the Wildcats dropped to 0-2 all-time against the Comets.

Trigg County returns to the hardwood Tuesday when they host Crittenden County.
