With twelve players on the scoresheet and none in double figures on Monday at Heritage Christian Academy, the UHA Blazers used a balanced effort to top the host Warriors 66-54.
The Blazers stop a two-game skid with their second victory over the Warriors to move to 8-11 overall ahead of a big matchup with Hopkinsville on Tuesday.
HCA slips to 15-7, 7-7 against KHSAA teams and a perfect 8-0 in KCAA play.
UHA claimed a nine-point victory in the teams’ first meeting this season, and it looked like they might be in for an easier night this time when the Blazers jumped out to a 10-0 lead.
The Warriors got within six early in the 2nd quarter, but University Heights built the margin back to double figures and took a 25-15 advantage into the halftime break.
Preston Thomas scored five and Cameron Brown added four to push the Blazer lead to 18 with 2:06 to play in the 3rd. However, the Warriors outscored UHA 7-3 over the rest of the quarter to trail by 14.
HCA’s Zane Yates and UHA’s Matthew Hauret traded 3-pointers early in the 4th, and the Blazers were back out in front by 18 after a floater by Gavin Grubbs with 5:45 to play.
But the Warriors had one more run in them, battling back from a 60-42 deficit with 2:15 left to get within 10 in the final seconds. Carlos Robles scored 10 of his game-high 18, and Trenton Hayes added eight for HCA, but the Blazers held on for the win.
