The Todd County Central Rebels will have to wait at least one more night for a chance to pick up their 20th win of the season. Franklin-Simpson used a strong defensive performance to take control of the game in the third quarter to ignite them to a 67-55 win Monday night in Franklin.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Todd County Central would lead 16-14 after the opening quarter. The Wildcats battled back and took a 32-31 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Rebels had big first-half efforts from Mareke Johnson and Jamison Glass, who combined to score 18 points in the first sixteen minutes of the game.
The third quarter, however, would not be kind towards the Rebels’ hopes of a 20-win season. Franklin-Simpson limited Todd Central to just two field goals and a pair of free throws in the quarter as the Wildcats ran the lead out to 46-37.
Franklin-Simpson would then make 10-14 free throws in the final quarter to turn back hopes of a Rebel rally and secure the win. The victory locks up the top seed for the Wildcats in the 13th District tournament. The Rebels can lock up the #2 seed with a win over Logan County next week.
Jamison Glass had a big night for Todd County Central with 20 points. Mareke Johnson finished the night with 13 points. Trayvon Foster and Preston Moore added 7 points each.
Only four Wildcats scored in the game led by Jalen Briscoe with 25 points. Briscoe was 8 of 11 at the line in the final quarter. Andreyus Miller finished with 21, while Gabe Jones had 19.
The loss drops the Rebels to 19-7. They will try again for their 20th win of the season Tuesday night on the road at Montgomery Central.
