Christian County High School is in the market for a new football head coach after Ricky Gehres stepped down from that role after just one season on the job.

Gehres faced a rebuilding job after taking over from longtime Colonel head coach Steve Lovelace.

Christian beat Caldwell County in its 2021 season opener, but then dropped its last 10 contests, including a setback to South Warren in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Christian County High School athletic director Trey Wheeler announced the resignation Tuesday afternoon.

Gehres has previously served as an assistant coach at Campbellsville for 14 seasons, the last eight as offensive coordinator, prior to taking the Christian County job.

Gehres is a 2000 graduate of Hopkinsville High School where he played receiver and quarterback.

“Due to family circumstances I’m resigning from my duties here at Christian County High School to relocate closer to family,” Gehres said in a statement,

Christian County says it will conduct a comprehensive search over the next several months for a new head coach.

“Christian County Schools wishes Coach Gehres all the best as he moves forward in his career,” the school said in a statement.
