
Christian County put three wrestlers on the podium at Saturday’s KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament still managed an 11th place finish.
A.J. Harvey won the heavyweight division with a pin of St. Xavier’s Carter Guillaume in the third round of their title match. It capped a 4-0 weekend for the Colonel senior in which he became the first Colonel heavyweight to win a state title.
Christian County has produced a state champion at four straight state tournaments.
At 113, JaRi Campbell moved into the championship match with a 6-4 decision over Johnson Central’s James Morris. The junior lost by pin to undefeated Jordyn Raney of Union County in the championship match. Campbell put together a 32-5 record on the mat.
At 150, Mason Kellett opened his Saturday by grinding out a 3-0 win over Paul Laurance Dunbar’s Jaris Bloom-Doyle. He dropped to the seventh-place match with a loss to St. Xavier’s Justin Krebs by pin. Kellett was able to bounce back and defeat Scott’s Aiden Zinser 2-0 to take seventh place.
At 190, Omarion Wimberly lost his Saturday match to Covington Catholic’s Willie Rodriguez by pin and finished 1-2 over the weekend.
Christian County scored 47 points to finish in 11th place as a team.
