It wasn’t a 23-run outburst like Monday’s win, but Christian County took advantage of the opportunities given them and pitched out of several jams to move to 2-0 with a 9-4 win over Trigg County Tuesday at Colonel Field.

The game was moved to Hopkinsville Tuesday afternoon after lighting issues were discovered at Trigg’s field.

Just like Monday, Christian used a big first inning to play from ahead for the night. Elijah Underhill, batting in the leadoff spot, walked then stole second and third. He scored on Preston Phan’s single to right to get the Colonels on the board.

After a single and walk, Isaac Peca appeared to pitch out of danger for Trigg but a bad throw on a two-out grounder plated two runs for a 3-0 Colonel lead and kept the inning alive.

Christian County would add two more runs on a Gage Montes single and a Trigg error on a stolen base attempt.

Peca didn’t pitch bad – two earned runs and seven hits in 4.2 innings with nine strikeouts. But the shaky defense caused a high pitch count and he exited in the fifth inning.

Meanwhile, freshman Aiden Lewis kept Trigg off balance at times. The lefty allowed five hits and three earned runs in 4.1 innings. He and the Colonel defense also stranded five Trigg runners in the first four innings. The Wildcats left the bases loaded in both the fourth and fifth innings with just two runs scored.

Underhill pitched the final two-and-a-third innings of relief, giving up a run on two hits with seven strikeouts. He also had a double and scored three runs at the dish.

Jacob Jenkins and Brylle Javier both had two hits for the Colonels as part of their eight-hit attack.

Peca had two hits and reached base four times for Trigg County. Kaiden McCormick also had a pair of hits for Trigg, who had seven hits at the plate but four errors in the field.

The loss spoiled the coaching debut of Wildcat skipper Taylor Follis, whose team is scheduled to host Marshall County Thursday.

Christian County has won 13 of 15 meetings with Trigg dating back a decade.

The Colonels will travel to Allen County-Scottsville Thursday.
