J.J. Thompson and Trenton Hayes combined to throw a no-hitter as Heritage Christian Academy opened its baseball season with a 5-2 win at Russellville Thursday.

The win was the first regular-season victory over a KHSAA school as the Warriors make the transition from the KCAA to the KHSAA.

J.J. Thompson went the first five innings, striking out 11 Panthers and walking four. Russellville scored on a walk and error in the first inning. An HCA error, walk, and passed ball plated their other run.

Heritage Christian scored twice in the second inning and three more times in the sixth.  Thompson drew a bases-loaded walk, and Carson Powell scored on a wild pitch in the second.

HCA got the winning runs on an RBI ground out and two Russellville wild pitches.

One of the three Warrior hits in the game was a triple by David Jent.

Thompson got the pitching win, and Trenton Hayes struck out six in two innings of work to get the save.

Heritage Christian Academy, who are the defending KCAA state champions, open conference play Saturday at home against Cornerstone Christian.
