Fresh off its season-opening win over Russellville on Thursday, Heritage Christian Academy swept a Saturday doubleheader from KCAA opponent Cornerstone Christian.
The pair of one-run wins moves the Warriors’ record to 3-0.
In the opener, Carter Glover drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth to plate the game-winner. It was one of four walks in the inning and part of six drawn by HCA in the contest.
HCA got on the board in the third inning when J.J. Thompson walked, stole second, advanced to third, and scored on a passed ball. Grant Floyd followed with a single that likely would have scored Thompson anyway.
Carson Powell doubled, and Tra Fowler and Thompson each singled for the Warriors.
Walker Ashby went the first 4.1 innings on the mound for HCA, allowing one earned run and striking out seven.
Trenton Hayes got the last two outs on strikeouts in the fifth to get the win.
In the second game, HCA used a three-run fourth inning to claim a 6-5 win.
Hayes got the start after getting the win in relief in game one but had trouble finding the same location with his pitches. He exited after getting just four outs and walking eight.
Down 3-0 after a half-inning, HCA got one run back in the first thanks to a bases-loaded walk.
Tra Fowler came on in relief of Hayes and stemmed the tide, allowing just one unearned run in three innings of work. He struck out five and allowed three hits in picking up the win.
Thompson delivered a two-out triple in the second inning and scored on a passed ball. Hayes walked and later came around on a wild pitch.
Down 5-3 in the fourth, Thompson doubled, stole third, and scored on a passed ball. Hayes walked, stole two bags, and scored on a David Jent single to tie the game at 5-5.
Tra Fowler delivered what proved to be the game-winner with a single to center.
Floyd came in to get the final two outs via strikeout to get the save.
Heritage Christian Academy (3-0) will host Dawson Springs Monday at 5 pm at David Eddings Field.
