Jaiden Miles drove in a pair of runs, Jackson Flynn took care of business to earn his first win of the year, and the University Heights Academy baseball squad continued its hot start Tuesday with a 3-1 victory at Russellville High School.

The Blazers, who took control early with a run in the top of the first inning, took advantage of four Panther errors and carved up a scuffling RHS team to win for the fourth time in their first five games of the season.

Miles was one of four UHA players to register a hit. He went 2-for-3 and had a game-high two RBIs to pace the offense. Ian Tyler went 1-for-4 with a run in the three-hole, while Ryan Luckey finished with a hit and a run in four plate appearances.

On the bump, Flynn fanned a half-dozen, walked three, and allowed a run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings. He also helped his own cause with a double — UHA’s only extra-base hit of the contest. Luckey closed out the game with 2 1/3 innings of perfect relief. He struck out three and earned the save by throwing 18 pitches and facing just six batters.

Davin Holloway (0-1) was saddled with his first loss despite a complete-game effort. The Panther senior struck out five but gave up five hits and three walks in seven innings. He also hit two batters and threw a total of 42 balls on 94 pitches. RHS (0-3) had three singles by three different players.

University Heights (4-1) is scheduled to have a rematch on the road March 22 at Owensboro. The Devils (2-1) handed the Blazers their first and lone loss, by a count of 10-6, on March 16 in Hopkinsville.
