The Lyon County Lyons have extended their unbeaten streak to start the 2022 baseball season to three. Jackson Shoulders and John Bingham combined to pitch a three-hit shutout as the Lyons knocked off Marshall County 3-0 Monday night at Lee S. Jones Park.

Shoulders, who is just three days removed from playing in the state basketball quarterfinals, got the start and went four innings, allowing just two hits. He struck out five during his time on the mound. Bingham pitched the final three innings and continued to hold the Marshals in check, giving up just one hit, striking out five, and walking only one.

The 10 strikeouts from the Lyon County hurlers mean that Marshall County batters have struck out 31 times over the last 14 innings. Christian County’s Elijah Underhill struck out 21 Marshals Saturday.

The Lyons would get the only run they needed on a Brody Williams blast to center with one out in the bottom of the 4th. Jackson Shoulders would add an RBI single in the bottom of the 5th inning. Eli Baker would score on a sac fly off the bat of Peyton Williams in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.

Jackson Shoulders, Brody Williams, Austin Spears, Peyton Williams, and Aiden Waters had one hit each for the Lyons.

With the win, the Lyons move to 3-0 on the season. They are set to host Paducah Tilghman Tuesday evening.
