A seven-run fifth inning helped Caldwell County push its winning streak against Trigg County on the baseball diamond to seven straight games.
Deontaye Walls gave up just two unearned runs on four base hits as the Tigers prevailed 12-2 in six innings Monday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
Caldwell (2-2) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when Matthew Blackburn walked and scored on a two-out error.
The Tigers added another run in the fourth when Gabe Dyer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and no outs. That made it 2-0. However, two strikeouts and a groundout kept Caldwell from doing even more damage in the inning.
But the Tigers made up for it in the fifth. Caldwell sent 12 men to the plate in the big inning while plating seven runs. Logan Smiley had a two-run double while Cole Slone knocked in another run with a double.
An error helped open the door for the big inning. Caldwell was also aided by a walk and three hit batters.
Trigg (0-4) picked up a pair of unearned runs in the top of the sixth to make it 9-2.
But Caldwell scored three times in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.
Two runs came in when Carter Whittington beat out an infield single. The game-ending run scored on a wild pitch.
Slone finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Smiley was 2-for-4 and knocked in two.
Caldwell scored its 12 runs on seven base hits. The Tigers were issued 10 free passes.
Walls struck out five and walked three while picking up the win on the mound.
The Tigers now lead the all-time series with Trigg 61-22-1.
Caldwell will go to Hopkinsville on Tuesday while Trigg hosts Madisonville-North Hopkins.
