Last season, the Christian County Colonels ended the year at 8-20. Struggling to score runs was one of the big reasons the Colonels struggled throughout the season.

Move forward a season, and things are a bit different for the Colonels in the early part of the season, to say the least, as Christian County has opened the season with six straight wins.

In 2021, the Colonels mustered 157 runs, an average of 5.6 runs a game, and gave up 236. That combination can make for a difficult season.

The Colonels hit .248 as a team, with just six home runs, all coming off the bat of Elijah Underhill. Colonel hitters also struck out 219 times.

Colonel pitchers had a combined ERA of 6.70 and struck out 190 batters.

Through the first six games of the 2022 season, Christian County has scored 79 runs, or an average of 13.1 per game, while giving up just 20 runs.

Christian County’s batting average has soared to .387 in the first week and a half. Five Colonels are batting above .400. The Colonels are running too, having stolen 43 bases in 43 attempts.

On the mound, the difference is pronounced as well. Colonels’ pitchers have a combined ERA of 1.08 and 52 strikeouts.

While it is early in the season, these kinds of numbers bode well for the remainder of the season for Christian County if the Colonels continue anywhere close to these trends.

The Colonels are on the road Friday to take on Crittenden County.
