University Heights Academy struck for all five of its runs during a sixth-inning rally attempt Monday on the road but ultimately fell a tad short in a 6-5 loss against Butler County. It’s the first time the Blazers (4-3) have dropped consecutive baseball games in 2022.

It was the third straight win for the host Bears, who have pieced together a winning streak after losing their first four games of the campaign. Butler County scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead, then had to hang on to thwart UHA’s furious comeback.

Heights, which left 10 runners on base, was led in the loss by Jaiden Miles, who had a hit, stolen base, and game-high two RBIs. JT Dearmond went 1-for-2 with an RBI and drew two of the Blazers’ six walks. All of UHA’s six hits were singles.

Miles gave up two hits, three runs, and two walks in two innings of relief to take the loss. Senior starter Eston Glover scattered five hits in four innings on the mound, striking out four and walking a pair in the no-decision.

The Bears (3-4) were led offensively by Clay Vincent (3-for-3, two runs, RBI) and Kolton Hudson (2-for-3, two runs, walk). Hudson also pitched 2/3 perfect innings to earn the victory on the bump.

The Blazers will try to get back on track when they play for the third time in four days and fourth straight road game overall — a March 29 matchup against Union County in Morganfield.
