Despite a solid effort from starting pitcher Avery Wade on Tuesday, the Trigg County High School softball team found itself on the wrong side of a 3-1 decision at Paducah Tilghman. Wade (5-3), who allowed just four hits and an earned run during all six innings pitched, gave up a pair of RBI singles and an RBI groundout, as the Blue Tornado scored once in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to build a 3-0 lead.

Attempting a last-ditch rally in the seventh and final inning, Trigg got a one-out single from MaKenna Hendricks, who later scored on a two-out error off the bat of Livia Breckel. On the same play, however, Rylee Hendricks was thrown out while attempting to score and make it a one-run game, ending the Wildcats’ comeback attempt.

The Hendricks girls each had a single, accounting for half of Trigg County’s hits. Brynlee Smock and Kiley Slone had the others. The teams combined for nine errors, including five from host Tilghman. Blue Tornado No. 9 hitter Audreya White was the top offensive player of the night, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, a run, stolen base, and an RBI.

In the circle, Reagan Hartman (3-1) threw five shutout innings and struck out four. Bryleigh Heal allowed a hit and the lone Trigg run in two innings of relief. It was the second game in a row that PTHS (5-4) has held its opposition to just one run.

Trigg County (5-4) returns home March 31 for a matchup with Hopkinsville’s Heritage Christian Academy, which will act as a tuneup for the Wildcats’ Kentucky 2A Championships Section 1 matchup with Union County, scheduled for April 1 in Cadiz.
