Todd County Central’s bid for a 4th Region All A baseball championship came to a heartbreaking end Saturday afternoon in Burkesville. Clinton County scored the walk-off run on a Rebel error as the Bulldogs advanced with a 4-3 win.
The Rebels looked to be about out of danger after a leadoff single in the inning was wiped out by a double play. However, Clinton County got a walk and a wild pitch just ahead of the error that ended the game.
The game had gone back and forth over the course of the afternoon.
Clinton County scored in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The run came after a Rebel error put the first batter of the inning on base.
Todd Central got to the lead in the top of the 2nd. Jase Paul Hampton drove in the first run with a single, scoring Jacob Brandon. Will Kearns then tripled to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead.
The Bulldogs plated a couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth to grab the lead back at 3-2.
Todd Central used a two-out error from Clinton County in the top of the 5th to even things up at 3-3 and set the stage for the dramatic finish.
Preston Rager, Jacob Brandon, Gavyn Nolan, Jase Paul Hampton, and Will Kearns each had a hit for the Rebels. Hampton and Kearns had RBIs.
Rebel starter Jase Paul Hampton went 5 1/3, giving up three runs, two of them earned, on five hits, striking out five while walking three.
The Rebels will now head south for the Fort Walton Beach Bash.
