Olivia Farmer’s two-out two-run single in the top of the 7th inning broke a 5-5 tie and carried the Massac County Lady Patriots to a 7-6 win over the Lyon County Lady Lyons Saturday afternoon at Lee S. Jones Park. Farmer’s game-winner was the fourth single of the inning for Massac.

Lyon County would have a chance in the bottom half of the inning. Courtney Collins would reach base on a single and then score on a two-out base hit from Emma West. But the Lady Lyons were not able to generate the tying run to push the game further as the Lady Patriots held on for the win.

The afternoon had started promisingly for the Lady Lyons. Calista Collins left the yard with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first to put Lyon up 2-0. Emma West then led off the bottom of the second with a solo shot to center field to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Patriot offense erupted for five runs in the top of the third inning. The big shot was a two-run double off the bat of Chloe Dassing.

Lyon County fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Hadlie Butler opened the inning with a solo shot to left. Later in the inning, Lauren Davis got a bunt single down and scored Courtney Collins to even the game up.

Emma West led the Lady Lyons going 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Calista Collins finished 1-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Lauren Davis was 2-4 with an RBI. Courtney Collins would end up 2-4 with two runs scored.

Lilly Perry went the distance in the circle, giving up 7 runs on 12 hits, striking out two while walking five.
