Fun in the Sun: Heritage Christian Opens Florida Trip With 20-0 Win

4-4-ruth

Kris Ruth dives for a foul ball during Heritage Christian Academy's win over Aletheia Christian Academy Monday.

Last year, Heritage Christian Academy stumbled in its initial baseball games played in Florida over spring break.

There was no such stumbling Monday. In fact, it was more of a dead sprint.

HCA scored seven runs in the first inning and 20 for the game in defeating Aletheia Christian Academy 20-0 in three innings near Pace, Florida.

The Warriors sent 12 batters to the plate in the initial inning with J.J. Thompson collecting a triple and a double in the first inning. He finished with four hits and three runs scored.

Carter Glover added two hits and three RBIs in the game while Weston Powell and Trenton Hayes each had a pair of hits and two runs knocked in.

HCA banged out 14 hits in the game and was helped by 14 Lion errors.

The Warriors added six runs in the second inning and seven more in the third.

That was all the offense Walker Ashby needed. The Warrior lefty allowed just one hit in two innings and struck out three.  Tra Fowler struck out two in one inning of work and did not allow a hit.

HCA takes an 8-1 record into Tuesday’s scheduled game with West Florida Baptist Academy. If expected rain hits the panhandle Tuesday, the game will be moved to Wednesday.
