Rebels in ‘Kearns Control’ to Win Florida Finale

4-7-kearns2

Todd County Central needed an inning-eating performance on the mound and some life at the plate Thursday, and they got them both as they blasted Union City, Tennessee 16-3 to salvage the final game of their trip to Florida.

Will Kearns (2-1) picked up the complete-game win on the mound, striking out seven and allowing just six hits. Only one of the three runs he allowed was earned.

At the plate, the Rebels banged out 16 hits and scored in all five innings.

Consecutive singles by Devin Schutt, Preston Rager, and Tanner Farmer staked the Rebels to a 1-0 first-inning lead. A dropped third strike by Union City and a Gavyn Nolan RBI single upped the lead to 3-0.

Schutt ripped an RBI double in the second inning, and Jase Paul Hampton added a two-run double to cap the seven-run second inning.

Rager punctuated his two-hit, three-RBI day with a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Farmer had three hits, with Schutt, Nolan, and Kearns each added a pair of hits. Hampton drove in four runs as part of his two-hit day.

Todd County finishes its trip to Florida at 1-3 with Tuesday’s game rained out. The Rebels (8-5) return home to Kentucky this weekend to prepare for Tuesday’s district home game with Logan County.
