Samantha Case played her junior season with a labrum injury yet still went behind the dish every game to catch for the Todd County Central Lady Rebels.

However, the injury didn’t heal as hoped and surgery-alternative treatment also didn’t respond as expected.

Case still didn’t miss much time this year, playing third base and pitching some for the Lady Rebels.  But the injury worsened throughout the season, and the University of Pikeville signee has a college career to prepare for.  Case made the tough decision to shut down her senior season next week and go under the knife so that she’s ready for college.

But she wanted one more game behind the plate — a position she grew up playing.

Case’s lone game as a catcher for her senior season was Friday as she began the game behind the plate. She gave the Lady Rebels six innings before moving to third base for the seventh. It was only appropriate that she caught a line drive for the game’s final out.

It was an emotional night for Case but one that ended on several high notes — a 3-for-3 night, a Lady Rebel win, and time behind the plate.
