The Trigg County softball team struggled to put runs on the board in a pair of losses on Saturday, wasting seven strong innings in the circle by Avery Wade in a 2-1 defeat to Ballard Memorial and dropping a 9-2 decision to Webster County.

Trigg County slips below .500 for the first time this season at 6-7 ahead of a trip to Morton’s Gap to face Hopkins County Central on Monday.

All of the offense came in the 3rd inning in the first game, with Ballard Memorial pushing a run across on an RBI single by Johnna Riggs and another coming home on wild pitch.

Trigg County took advantage of a pair of Lady Bomber errors in the bottom of the frame to score its only run of the game.

Wade was a hard-luck loser in the circle, scattering five hits with two walks and ten strikeouts.

Michaela Meyer earned the win for Ballard Memorial, allowing an unearned run on a pair of hits with three strikeouts.  Madyson Bohde worked the 7th, striking out the side to preserve the victory.

The Lady Wildcats were within a run going into the final frame against Webster County as well, but six runs in their final at-bat handed the Lady Trojans a comfortable victory.

Kiley Slone’s two-run single put Trigg in front in the bottom of the 2nd, but Webster County evened the score in the top of the 4th on an RBI single by Mallory Leath and a sacrifice bunt by Katelyn Cates.

An RBI single for Emily Braden and a bases-loaded double by Jayden Jackson finished things off in the 7th, and Chloe Papineau worked around a pair of singles in the bottom of the inning to seal the win.

Papineau allowed seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Cates drove in a pair of runs, and Sydney Shoulders had two hits.

Wade worked 4.2 innings for the Lady Wildcats, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with a strikeout.  Lillie Cortner finished the game, yielding six earned runs on four hits with four walks and a strikeout.

Slone was 3/3 at the plate with two RBI for Trigg, and Cortner hit safely twice.
