Eighth grader Jackie Farmer scattered six base hits on Monday as the Caldwell County Lady Tiger softball team beat Graves County 5-1 at Lady Tiger Field.
Farmer did not walk a batter and struck out one while allowing just the one earned run in the sixth inning.
Farmer was around the strike zone the entire game. Of her 78 pitches, only 13 were balls.
The win ended a three-game losing skid for the Lady Tigers.
Caldwell’s girls are now 9-7 while Graves is 10-7.
Laney Jones drove in the first run of the game with a grounder to first in the second inning.
The Lady Tigers then added three runs in the third.
Brylee Butts knocked in a run when she hit into a fielder’s choice at short. A.J. Hollowell crossed the plate on a wild pitch, then Butts scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Harper Holeman. That extended the Caldwell lead to 4-0.
Graves scored its only run in the top of the sixth when Bailey Wimsatt doubled with one out and came around when Ellie Davis followed with a single to center.
Caldwell got that run back in the bottom of the inning when Presley McKinney doubled to start the frame. Pinch runner Daelen Kizzee then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1.
Hollowell was 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Lady Tigers while Wimsatt was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Lady Eagles.
Caldwell’s last three games had been setbacks to Lyon County, Madisonville-North Hopkins and Henderson County.
Caldwell County will host Dawson Springs Tuesday for Senior Day. Not only will the Lady Tigers recognize their only senior, Illysa Stallins, but four Lady Panther seniors will also be honored before the game. Because of damage at the Dawson Springs ballpark, the Lady Panthers do not have any home games this season.
Caldwell has taken 13 straight from Dawson Springs. The Lady Tigers lead the all-time series 25-12.
Tuesday’s game is set for a 5:30 start, with Senior Day recognition before the contest.
