Just three batters into Monday’s high school baseball tilt at Fort Campbell, senior AJ Harris drove an RBI double to right field and the visiting Vikings never really looked back, as Clarksville Northwest (TN) handled the Falcons 18-2 in just two innings.

Northwest finished with 13 hits and Avry Harris was the only player in the game with more than one. The freshman second baseman went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. The bottom of the NWS lineup — Avry Harris, Isaiah Ludlow and Cade Steiner — combined for a perfect night. The trio was 6-for-6 with four runs batted in. Each had two runs scored apiece.

After the Vikings went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, host Fort Campbell did fight right back and tied the game in the bottom half on a Northwest error and Andrew Haughenberr’s sacrifice fly that plated Aidan Blaszkowski.

In the second inning, however, NWS (7-8-1) took complete control by scoring an eye-popping 16 runs in the frame. The Clarksville squad started the inning by going walk-single-single-walk, and took a 7-2 advantage when a ground ball by AJ Harris led to a three-run FCHS error.

Ethan Egner (1-4) was saddled with the loss. He pitched both innings for the Falcons and allowed 13 hits, 14 earned runs, and five walks. The Vikings never struck out despite 20 at-bats in the run-shortened affair. AJ and Avry Harris each had RBI doubles in the contest — the only two Northwest extra-base hits.

FCHS (4-15), which swept a doubleheader April 21, has now lost three straight games since the double-dip triumph. In Monday’s contest, the Falcons were held to just one hit — a Blaszkowski single to load the bases in the bottom of the first. Fort Campbell drew four walks, stole three bases, and committed four errors.

The Falcons now look ahead to a run of 8th District games, including an April 26 matchup at Hopkinsville and road doubleheader the next day (April 27) at University Heights Academy.
